as posted by the channelTo clarify, I somewhat misspoke when I said there is no such thing as North or South- the magnetic poles of course exist, which is why compasses work. What I mean is that in in space, there is no up or down, and our alignment of the globe's hemispheres is arbitrary. You could flip the globe "upsidedown" and it would still be accurate.
