Healthcare In America: Should We Cover The Uninsured During A Pandemic?

Unemployment is still at a high due to job loss from the pandemic, which left many Americans uninsured. Does this mean we should cover the uninsured?

Is this merely a debate between privatized healthcare vs government assisted healthcare? Or is there a greater issue that needs to be addressed?

Joining David for this Millennial Minute is Isabel Brown, spokesperson for Turning Point USA, and Hilary Levey Friedman, author of “Here She Is.”

Brown says that this should be a resounding yes regardless of your stance on the political spectrum, and the real question is what should the role of government be in taking on this very, very unprecedented challenge. She says that ultimately, our solution should be looking for sustainable solutions instead of temporary government solutions, as this isn’t our country’s first pandemic, and it certainly won’t be the last.

And while Friedman agrees that temporary government assistance is a tough push to get through, once the public has insurance it would be very difficult to take it away, we can’t ignore the fact that right now there are many many people who are jobless and need immediate assistance right now. And their health is going to impact others, as well.

Both women agree that something needs to be done with our healthcare system, but differ on the approach to fixing it. Check out the video, and see what they have to say for strategy.
