as posted by the channelIt’s time for another Millennial Minute with Julia Sun. Let us know what you think in the comments below!
Today’s burning question, literally, is the fashion industry too wasteful? For instance, fashion brands will burn their excess and out of season items. Should they do it?
For this Millennial Minute, Julia Sun is joined by political strategist Ajay Bruno, and Kat Murti, Executive Director of Feminists for Liberty.
Bruno starts off by saying that he doesn’t see the point. This is creating a culture that is dividing and excluding Americans. He further says that the issue of fast fashion being wasteful is all blown out of proportion.
Murti also thinks that this panic of the fashionable industry being wasteful is what’s blown over the top. We’re seeing more and more brands now with second wave fashion, recycled fashion, and upcycled fashion. These brands are also charging more than the fast fashion brands of the fast fashion industry, such as Forever 21, that might see their work go off the shelves more quickly.
The consumer market is speaking out against waste, and the fashion companies are responding.
