When President Biden took office, he terminated the 1776 Commission. With that being said, could we still see Patriotic Education taught in schools? Should Patriotic Education be taught in schools?
To answer this question, Bold host Julia Sun is joined by AJ Swinson, Chief of Staff at the New Journey PAC, and Christian Watson, host of the “Pensive Politics” podcast and friend of Bold TV.
Swinson believes that Patriotic Education is necessary, and that a huge part of it should be history. She says that we should believe that this is what happened in American history, this is what we stood for, this is what we did wrong, and this is what we did right. And at the end of the day we’re all Americans and united under the American flag no matter what your background is.
Watson loves America, and loves being an American, but also believes that students can decide for themselves whether or not they should learn Patriotic Education. He says that if there’s this idea of an overarching duty that we have for our nation and that our duty to receive this education is forced upon us, then that by definition is the opposite of duty. Duty should arise from a sense of love, expectation, and obligation that starts in the individual’s heart, and that is best obtained through voluntary means.
