The daytime talk show, The Talk, has extended their hiatus amidst discussions around racism involving co-hosts Sharon Osbourne and Sheryl Underwood. During the episode, Sharon Osbourne defended Piers Morgan following the backlash he was receiving on the comments he made about Meghan Markle and Prince Harry. Other past co-stars and guests have given their support to Sheryl Underwood as they too have received racial slurs from Sharon Osbourne.
The hashtag StopAAPIHate (or #StopAAPIHate, Stop Asian Hate) has been trending across all social media. This has been happening ever since the traumatic shootings occurred in Atlanta earlier this week killing 8 people, 6 of those victims being Asian women. It’s now stated by the Stop Asian and Pacific Islander Hate Organization that as of March 2020, there have been 3,800 hate incidents reported in the US. If you’re looking to help, GoFundMe has established a fund with a goal of $1 Million to distribute to grassroots organizations.
The 2021 Oscar nominations are out, and history has been made! According to Variety, the Best Picture nods go to “The Father”, “Judas and the Black Messiah”, “Mank”, “Minari”, “Nomadland”, “Promising Young Woman”, “Sound of Metal”, and “The Trial of the Chicago 7”. Netflix’s “Mank” scored a leading 10 nominations while “Judas and the Black Messiah”, “Nomadland”, “Minari”, followed with 6 each. Chadwick Bozeman and Viola Davis both scored Best Actor and Best Actress respectively for Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom. And for their supporting roles in “Judas and the Black Messiah” both Daniel Kaluuya and LaKeith Stanfield were nominated for Best Supporting Actor.
And making history were Chloe Zhao for “Nomadland” and Emerald Fennell for “Promising Young Woman” who both were nominated for Best Director. This is the first year two women have been nominated for this title, with Chloe Zhao being the first woman of color to receive a nomination. Congratulations on making herstory during Women’s History Month, ladies!
