You’ve heard of the insanity of the Florida Man, but why is everyone becoming one, David included? David breaks it down for you here.
David says that a lot of his neighbors are recently moving from high tax states such New York, Illinois, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and California. They might have been on the fence about moving to Florida before, but 2020 was the last straw for these transplants.
Not to mention, the recent shift to working from home has led the charge in this recent moving boom.
But why Florida? We’re the butt of jokes with old people, swamps, and the elusive “Florida Man” making headlines. Let’s break that down.
The “Florida Man” exists because of open record laws in Florida. This is also called the “Sunshine Law”. That means that all documents, photos, and videos created by public agencies (like the police) are available for anyone to see at any time. This also means that Florida isn’t crazier than any other state, we’re just more open with records for the general public to see at any time.
Also, without burying the lede here, Florida doesn’t have a state income tax! Because Florida is one of the states with no income tax, you are taking home a significant difference in your regular paycheck. Take it from David Grasso who was working and living in Manhattan. Once he made the move to South Florida, he saw a significant jump in his paycheck.
