Marketing trends change every year, and you need to stay on top of what’s going on to optimize your own marketing strategy. To help us with this, Philip Michael is joined by the CMO of Mastercard, Raja Rajamannar. Raja is also the author of the book, “Quantum Marketing: Mastering the New Marketing Mindset for Tomorrow's Consumers.” Hear what Raja Rajamannar has to say regarding marketing trends and marketing strategies in 2021 and where he thinks marketing is headed in the future with the marketing experience, and the world of crypto.
Rajamannar starts by saying you need to understand how marketing as a function works. With his team, they have been trying to rewrite the playbook in marketing over the past couple of years.
One thing Raja Rajamannar says to understand is how to create marketing that is reaching the consumer in all five senses. Normally, he says that marketing reaches to the hearts and minds of the consumer through two senses, audio and visual. Why not be multi-sensory? In the future we should be looking at and considering all five senses.
Also, Raja Rajamannar says that marketing should not only be generating profits for the company, but should be generating for the social good because marketing is in the position to do it.
Another important objective that Mastercard’s marketing team is working towards is “doing the work” vs lip service, especially when as a company you choose to specifically want to work towards uplifting minority groups. Number one, you have to hold yourself accountable in your community so the community can see that you’re doing the work. Number two, you need to make sure that internally you are doing everything that you could be doing. Number three, you need to make sure you are the companies you work with, and other business partners, are holding onto the same values and understanding that they are also being held accountable.
