Asking for a raise. Have you done it? Do you want to ask for a raise? What about pay transparency? We've got the career advice you need to know right here.

For anyone who has never asked for a raise, here’s some advice:

You have to ask! You have to advocate for yourself, as no boss is going to just give you a raise. Mark your first day as an employee on your calendar, and every year on your work anniversary talk to your supervisor. They could say no, but they could also say yes, so take that step.

Ask for at least enough to keep up with the inflation rate (about 2-3%). You could always ask for more, but for those who are just starting out in their career, inflation is just fine.

Talk to your co-workers and compare your salaries. This is the best way to find out if you’re getting paid as much as you should. Pay transparency is crucial, and comparing pay stubs could be helpful for you and your friends.

Lastly, make sure you’re aware of your employer’s situation. If your boss is complaining about budget cuts, maybe take a while before you go in on that talk. And if the situation continues, maybe you should talk to them about the future of the company.

Bottom line for anyone looking for early career advice, or just career advice, know your worth!
