The US and Canada have classified the actions of the Chinese government towards an ethnic minority group native to Xinjiang, called the Uyghurs, as genocide, but we’re not hearing this in the media.
To help us understand what is happening in China, we brought in Sophia Fisher.
According to Sophia Fisher, it’s estimated that over 1 million Uyghur muslims are being put into detention camps. Chinese officials are also denying that this is happening.
What can we do to help the Uyghur people?
We, as Americans, can speak up on social media and tell our government that something needs to be done. This isn’t a “difference of cultural norms”, this is a human rights violation.
What else can you tell us about human trafficking?
Human trafficking exists in all corners of the globe, and is currently the fastest growing crime estimated to generate over $150 billion annually, and what is happening in China with the Uyghur people is another example of human trafficking.
