How To Maintain Connections In Our New Normal, Yes, It's Possible!

Meaningful connections are important for any small business owner, but what can be done to make this happen? We’re here to show you just that.

Joining Philip Michael and David Grasso today is Susan McPherson, founder of McPherson Strategies and author of “The Lost Art of Connecting.”

McPherson starts by addressing the obvious, in our new normal it’s harder to keep connections and relationships! So when thinking about how to maintain connections, we need to strive towards going that extra mile, doing that little bit more, even if it's only a small amount. We also need to be intentional. Our intentions when we try to keep our connection or relationship in this new normal will speak for themselves.

The world is largely virtual, now, so learning how to build your network in our new normal is vital. McPherson has a method in her book called, “Gather Ask Do”. What is a meaningful connection to you? What community or network do you want to build around you?

When thinking about the community or network that you want to build, it’s also advised to stay away from echo chambers. A community or network formed around an echo chamber could lead to a community that is less prosperous.

Will we see a return to the in person networking? McPherson says that we’ll see a hybrid! There are many pros to a Zoom Happy Hour, like how the possibilities of global networking came to us in an instant. But that being said, there is something to be said with an in person connection that you can’t get anywhere else. As such, this is the best time to start really building meaningful connections.

A tremendous way to build community around you, and especially that is different from you, is by doing volunteer service. McPherson can’t recommend enough the importance of doing volunteer service.

When it comes to learning how to connect with someone, and taking that first step on how to connect with people, she advises that you ask them, “How can I help you?”
