Joining Philip Michael today is Abner Larrieux, Founder of Alacriti Analytics to talk about how Alacriti is leading the charge for more diversity in tech.
What is Alacriti Analytics?
AA is a SAS based enterprise platform. This platform connects underrepresented founders, and a woman and/or a minority owned business, to Fortune 500 companies and government agencies, to help them access contracts, opportunities, and capital.
Why aren't there more women in tech, and in general why isn’t the tech industry more inclusive?
Abner Larrieux says that there are a couple of factors that led to a low level of diversity in tech. One is that there are structural inequities, opportunities are more given to other groups because those opportunities have just always been there. Two, there’s bias, potentially even implicit or unconscious bias in the tech industry. Lastly, it’s networking and relationships, and networking and relationships are very very crucial when trying to make it in the tech industry.
What can BIPOC communities in tech do to help people of color get their start in the tech industry?
Abner Larrieux says that adding to the collective voice is key. One person’s voice can move the needle slightly, but a collective builds a BIPOC support network.
