Geeks, we’ve got a lot going on in the world, and we don’t mean Ben and JLo.
Crisis In Israel - What’s happening in Israel? Well, a lot. So let’s break it down. Tensions started lat the beginning of Ramadan, a holy month most Palestinians observe. Israeli police tried to set up some blockades in order to prevent some public Palestinian festivities that usually take place in a public square, which resulted in protests and clashes.
From there, tensions grew, as well as a march with supporters of a far right Jewish organization that wanted to confront Palestinians that were clashing with the police, sparking additional violence.
Meanwhile, young Palestinians started a campaign on Tiktok where they would harass religious Jews.
So then, young Jews started attacking Palestinians in downtown West Jerusalem.
At the same time, a plan to evict 6 Palestinian families from a predominantly Arab neighborhood in East Jerusalem called Sheikh Jarrah unfolded. Timing.
Protests between Israelis and Palestinians continued further. Until recently, when things really turned ugly.
Palestinians protested the Sheikh Jarrah Evictions and a march that was planned for Jerusalem Day. This culminated into clashes at the Al-Aqsa mosque in the Old City of Jerusalem during prayers when Palestinians threw stones at the police who responded by storming the mosque, and firing tear gas and rubber bullets.
Hamas, a terrorist organization in Gaza, took this as an opportunity to create more clashes and fired rockets into Israel, including Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. This led to 6 deaths including 1 child.
Israel has responded in heavy airstrikes in Gaza which has resulted in over 65 deaths including 16 children. The airstrikes and missiles on each side are continuing.
