Joining Philip Michael today is Jacinta Mathis, the Co-Founder of Dipper, a platform that is dedicated to diversity and inclusion in the workplace, and helps BIPOC professionals find their next job.
What does Dipper do, and what sets Dipper apart from other platforms?
Dipper is an interactive platform for BIPOC professionals to share their workplace experiences, and not only the negative things but what positive workplace experiences you have had. Dipper also has a job listing so it provides a way for companies to share jobs they have available. Dipper is working towards a collective safe space that’s for us by us.
What motivated you to start Dipper?
Jacinta Mathis talks about how her late father was a pioneer in diversity and inclusion in the workplace (DEI), as a chief diversity officer at a Fortune 100 company. She saw how her father turned his office into a safe space, and gave so much to so many people. When he passed, Jacinta Mathis wanted to know how she could honor his legacy and bring DEI to tech.
According to Jacinta Mathis, DEI needs to be more than just a hashtag and a t-shirt from a company. To really create diversity and inclusion in the workplace, how are we approaching executive teams? How is this impacting the board of directors? You really need to look at what the company believes in, and the core values.
Any features during Pride Month?
At Dipper, according to Jacina, every month is Pride Month, and Dipper provides a safe space and opportunities for LGBTQ BIPOC professionals. The co-founders believe in the power of collective power and how it needs to be seens 12 months a year.
