Joining Philip Michael today is CEO of Mitigate Partners, Carl Schuessler. We talk all about health insurance and which one is best for your business.
Mitigate Partners help businesses create health care plans that benefit their employees and their budget. So how does Mitigate Partners actually work?
Mitigate Partners are a group of benefit advisors from across the country with about 30 different offices. They believe that collaboration is more important than competition. These benefit advisors decided to come together and work together. Schuessler says when you work alone you have a myopic view of things but through collaboration you can see a much bigger picture.
How much does the average business spend on health insurance? Why is healthcare so expensive and how does Mitigate Partners step in and help with this issue?
Between $10 to $15,000 per an employee, per a year. There are many people that benefit from increasing prices in the health insurance industry and the losers are the employees. Since we don't have universal healthcare, the costs are driven high by misaligned incentives. Mitigate Partners steps in and eliminates the middles. They take insurance companies out of the equation and build their own healthcare plans. They create employer built healthcare. Most businesses do insurer billed healthcare where the insurance companies build the healthcare plans for these businesses. The benefits of having an employer built healthcare plan is that it allows employers to actively manage the plan and keep their costs to a minimum while improving clinical outcomes for their employees. Schuessler also says that this improves the financial outcomes of the employer and employee. The point is to “get the money off Wall Street back to Main Street, re-localizing the care in the communities where it was meant to be given.”
What do Mitigate Partners seek to target and disrupt?
The first thing to do is sit with these benefit advisors and have a long conversation about what kind of plan you want for your employees and how to build it effectively including finding the best cost containment bricks. As opposed to insurance companies that don’t tell the costs of services until many days later. Schuessler says that Mitigate Partner is transparent about the cost and quality solutions where members can call and be led to the right doctors of good quality, convenient time, and an appropriate price. They want their clients to know the cost of medical services up front. The goal is that employees can get the care that they need without the counterproductive barriers that exist within the healthcare system.
