In the US, you have the right to 12 weeks of unpaid parental leave, there is no mandated paid parental leave. Only about 20% of US workers get paid parental leave and the US fertility rate is way down in America. This spells economic disaster for us in the long term.
We need to have family first policies put forth to ensure the future of our country. It’s so important that there is a General Strike being organized on October 15th, 2021. One of their goals is a 12 week paid paternity and maternity leave.
Thankfully, the labor shortage is causing some companies to offer generous perks. For example, the restaurant chain Sweetgreen is offering up to 5 months of paid paternal leave. President Biden is promising 12 weeks of paid family leave and medical leave for all workers.
