Daycare prices could be more affordable under a new government proposal. Changes are on the table to help families pay a reasonable amount for their childcare and pay daycare workers more. The United States is hoping to join other countries in providing childcare at a lower price.
The average childcare in the US for a two year old kid costs $1100 per month. Parents are also not guaranteed a spot in daycare. The government could be doing more to help. On average, the US government spends $500 per child for childcare compared to the world leader Norway who spends almost $30,000 per child.
Changes that would allow daycare workers to receive a better pay. Instead of the average $10 to $15 an hour, they would receive the same as a school teacher. Parents would also benefit. They would pay less in fees as well. This would make it easier for both parents to work in a two parent home. In a single parent home, it would help these parents afford to send their children to these daycare programs.
