Belarus-Poland Crisis

The US and Europe have been putting sanctions against Belarus after the Belarusian dictator Alexander Lukashenko rigged an election last year and has been repressing his people since. Lukashenko retaliated by sending thousands of migrants to the border of Poland and Lithuania. He warned he would do it earlier this year and went through with it. He sought out and brought in migrants (mostly from the Middle East) only to send them to the borders of Poland and Lithuania. 3 to 4 thousand of these migrants are stuck at the Polish border. Apparently, more than 10,000 other migrants are on their way. The Belarusian authorities have seized the phones of the migrants and many have no food or water. Temperatures at the border are below zero and several have died waiting there. Lukashenko is taking this out of the Turkish playbook who have sent migrants into Europe in the past when their leader gets pissed at Europe.

Iraqi Prime Minister Assassination Attempt

Mustafa Al-Kadhimi, the Iraqi prime minister survived an assassination attempt after three drones targeted his residence in Baghdad. Two of the drones were shot down and one hit his house but didn’t succeed in the assassination. The US says that Iraqi militias backed by Iran were behind this attack. Iranian militias are upset that they keep losing elections. Since the prime minister took office, there have been many attacks on the Green Zone in Baghdad where there are government buildings and an international presence. Pro-Iran candidates only won a few seats in recent parliamentary elections and there have been attacks ever since.
