Growing up, we were always warned that we won't get a job if we have tattoos. Does that still stand true today? Younger generations are getting tattoos more than ever before. Almost half of people ages 18-35 have at least one tattoo. There are currently no protection laws for people with tattoos, which means you could be fired or not hired for a position if you have one. But the notion around visible tattoos at work seems to be changing. In the past, most employers have made their people cover up any visible tattoos.
However, companies like Disney theme parks and United Airlines have changed their policies to create a more inclusive workplace. The military has also changed the rules regarding tattoos allowing them no matter the size or amount, as long as they are not on certain areas of the body, like the face or hands. So if we are becoming more accepting of tattoos, once we already have the job, shouldn't we be more accepting during the hiring process?
