Are you driving an automobile that is more than ten years old and have no plans to upgrade?
Guess what? Because of the sky-high car prices, you're the average American. The average age of a vehicle on the road is now a mind-boggling 12 years.
So if you're driving a 2010 Toyota Camry around and hoping that you won't have to spend any more money at the mechanic, you're living in the new normal. In fact, cars in America can be 100% financed, allowing you to drive off the lot with very little money down. However, the average cost of a new car has risen to $47,000. So, if you're paying payments over five years, that's $800 a month!
And this is why most people don't buy new cars; yet, used car prices are up 40% from a year ago, and costs are up everywhere due to shortages. According to industry sources, the shortages will persist at least another year. And now you know why, even if they have the money, people put off buying new cars.
But what happens when your car ultimately breaks down and you have no other options? You can buy a Honda Accent, which costs roughly $17,000 and change.
You might remember this cute little tuna can from your last Uber ride. It's also one of the slowest automobiles on the road, taking nine seconds to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph. It's cheap and readily available, and it costs a lot less than most used cars these days.
