The general recommendation among experts is to save one million dollars for retirement, or 80 percent of your annual pay.
However, even retirement specialists acknowledge that there are far too many factors at play for there to be a single, universally applicable number.
Bank of America says many things count. Your anticipated retirement age, life expectancy, sources of income, and annual spending all factor in.
Based on a life expectancy of 91 years, retiring with a million dollars at age 65 would provide you with a 40 K yearly income.
In the end, we all anticipate the day when we've saved enough money to enjoy life without having to work a grind from 9 to 5.
