Here's why eating a hamburger or steak is becoming more difficult than ever.

One: beef has become prohibitively pricey.

Fortunately, prices are beginning to fall, particularly for the more expensive cuts like my personal favorite rib eye new york strip steaks.

However, if you like hamburgers, you won't see any inflation respite.

Nonetheless, ground beef costs are still skyrocketing.

With increasing regulations and droughts, beef will most likely be a luxury item for future generations.

Two: cattle farming can be harmful to the environment.

Beef consumption has a negative impact on the environment and necessitates a large amount of feed.

Cows account for more than 65% of agricultural greenhouse gas emissions, pound for pound. Between methane-emitting cow farts and the deforestation required to rear cattle, beef consumption can be troublesome if not properly controlled.

Three: health concerns about saturated fat's.

Too much of a good thing, like anything else, is bad for you. Plant-based diets are also growing more popular.

Finally, there's a reason why pig and poultry are more popular protein sources around the world. They are far easier to raise, less environmentally harmful, and much less expensive.

But, sadly, nothing beats a hamburger; it's the all-American meal.

For beef eaters like me, the future is likely to be lab-grown meat that is healthier, better for the environment, and, of course, more ethical. But we know that when that arrives, that will be a contentious subject.

Would you eat lab-grown meat? Let us know in the comments below.
