So, those pictures you're seeing out of Florida at the moment, a lot of those people sadly won't have insurance money to rebuild. So, naturally, most people assume that their insurance covers flood but weirdly, it doesn't. It's like eyes and teeth in health care. Somehow your health insurance doesn't cover those- a strange tradition, indeed.
Of course, flooding is a big issue in places like Florida and around the country. Surprisingly, California is one of those places. It's currently in a drought, of course, but it turns out it has many areas that are extremely flood-prone, and most flood insurance is sold by FEMA or the federal government. And it's getting more and more expensive as disaster strikes more often. Recently, people have been actually dropping their flood insurance in droves because they can't afford it.
So there are more and more uninsured households in America that live in flood zones. And sadly, with climate change, flooding is going to become more common. So this is quickly becoming a political problem, as millions of people live in the danger zone without coverag
