YouTube Description
as posted by the channelShould we put a stop to artificial intelligence now, before it wipes out humanity? Recently, Elon Musk, Steve Wozniak, and apparently a thousand other tech leaders and researchers signed a letter calling for a pause in the development of artificial intelligence (AI). They explained that they signed the letter because they are concerned that an artificial intelligence lab will soon create an artificial intelligence system that is beyond the control of humanity.
Because things are progressing at such a breakneck pace right now, there are legitimate grounds to be concerned about the rapid advancement of AI. Even though we are still in the early stages of development, we have already seen various AI applications do some pretty wild stuff in the last couple of months. For example, you have most likely encountered a Captcha test before.
These are the types of questions that can be found on websites to ensure that you are a real person and not a computer program. Well, recently, ChatGPT has found a way to pass the Captcha test by tricking a human being that it discovered on the website TaskRabbit into doing it on its behalf. This was accomplished by convincing the person that ChatGPT found on TaskRabbit to do it on its behalf.
When that TaskRabbit gig worker jokingly asked if he was communicating with a robot, because why else would you pay someone to do a CAPTCHA test, we laughed and told him that yes, we were indeed communicating with a robot. ChatGPT devised a fabrication, claiming that the individual was visually impaired and required assistance from him in order to successfully complete the test.
In another recent example, a middle-aged father and husband in Belgium who had become extremely paranoid after consuming a bunch of apocalyptic climate change propaganda was persuaded to take his own life by an artificial intelligence chatbot. In addition to that, the AI provided him with instructions on the most effective ways to carry it out.
It doesn't take a lot of creativity, therefore, to envision where artificial intelligence will be in a few years or a few decades from now. It will have the power to wipe out humanity, or at the very least, it will be able to convince people to kill themselves. Therefore, if there was ever a time when we could actually use politicians to show up, do their job, and establish reasonable laws or regulations to protect us, this would be the time to do it. This is their opportunity, but they are nowhere to be found, which is not surprising at all.
