as posted by the channelFlorida Governor Ron DeSantis has announced a bid for the White House. But does he actually have a shot of becoming President? Well, most of the polls suggest that DeSantis would beat Biden in a general election. And that's not surprising, the president's approval numbers are now at a record low; about 37%.
But of course, before he even gets to Biden, DeSantis would have to beat former President Trump in a Republican primary, and right now, he's polling way behind the former president among GOP voters. Still, I would not bet against DeSantis for two reasons.
First, DeSantis is more electable. Biden is a very weak candidate, but he likely still beats Trump again in the rematch because Trump has lost so much support amongst suburban whites, particularly the college-educated whites who used to vote for people like Romney or Bush or Reagan.
DeSantis has a much better shot, appealing to these kinds of voters and pulling off a victory in states like Arizona, Nevada and Georgia, which Trump seems incapable of winning anymore.
The second thing working in DeSantis' favor is that Trump is actually running to the left of him on several key issues, including things like entitlement reform, spending, abortion policy, the vaccines- which Trump was a huge cheerleader of- and strangely, Trump is now even criticizing some of the culture war battles that DeSantis has launched against companies like Disney for being too woke.
So, who will be the Republican nominee for president? That decision is going to affect our country's future for many years to come.
