A funeral usually costs between $7000 and $8000, and if you're not careful, it can cost you a whole lot more.
The government requires funeral homes to provide a transparent price list, but most places don't follow those rules. And these places will try to upsell you, so don't fall for it. Prepaid plans also come with all sorts of other problems as well, so buyer beware.
Death is really hard to deal with, and you might be numb because you just lost someone close to you, but don't let your guard down at the funeral home; stick to the plan.
And remember: there's also no legal requirement to have a funeral, and celebrations of life outside of traditional funeral homes are cheaper and might be a better way to remember your loved one.
