as posted by the channelWhen do you know food has gone bad, "best by" or "use by" labels? Turns out those aren't very accurate, scientific or even deemed reliable by the government. So when you know food is no longer edible?
Well, there isn't a great system to figure that out. Current "use by" labels cause a lot of food waste. And food companies love it when you throw out good food because you'll soon buy more.
That's why it's estimated that more than 1/3 of food ends up in the trash in America. Now, there are bipartisan calls for the FDA to standardize food expiration standards. Hopefully, sometime soon, that will go somewhere.
