50:59Now PlayingCelebrity worship is a real phenomenon & we've all seen videos of people worshipping celebrities, especially since the internet gives us access to everything they do and provides us with a faux sense that we know them. Celebrity worship is real, not always a good thing, and much scarier if you start to analyze the behavior.
Celebrities are actually normal people like you and me caught up in the cult of celebrity- owing it to their 'lucky career trajectory' and their fans who associate them with positive outcomes. But if being a celebrity doesn't make anyone better at anything, then why do we give them so much praise? Why do we treat some famous people like they are literally God or something? It seems completely counterintuitive - but as it turns out, celebrities fuel our confidence, which can be addicting. The power of association- it makes us feel good about ourselves and happy to have been able to witness such greatness.
There are fans who have sold their homes, fans who have sold their bodies, and fans who have cut off pieces of their body as an offering to celebrities they worship - all as misguided attempts to gain access to or favor from their idols.
Lets us explore why do we have such a hard time looking past their superficial persona into their true self?
