Zoe Leigh has drawn significant attention to the issue of property loss, where Black elders face the forced sale or confiscation of homes. Leigh highlights that as migrants receive shelter, healthcare, and other resources from the city's budget, these resources are simultaneously being drained from established neighborhoods where residents have paid taxes for decades. Statistics show that nearly half of Chicago’s homeless population is made up of undocumented immigrants, a situation that has exacerbated the financial strain on the city.

Danni C and Patrice Stewart add that Mayor Johnson’s response—higher taxes and increased property seizures—is a further betrayal to Chicago’s citizens, who are already overburdened with rising costs and diminishing social services. Together, the three activists argue that this pattern of neglect demonstrates the Democratic Party’s failure to address issues directly affecting Black citizens, effectively treating them as "pawns" for political gain.

With a desire for change, Leigh, Danni, and Stewart advocate for a political shift. They support Republican policies and candidates, reasoning that the GOP’s stance on economic self-reliance, stricter immigration enforcement, and government accountability may offer better outcomes for their community.
