YouTube Description
as posted by the channelThese are some of my first impressions and observations of the Small Box Respirator, a British gas mask which was introduced as standard issue in the Spring of 1917. While simplistic and bulky by modern standards, it was one of the most sophisticated designs to come out of the war, and remains one of the most iconic symbols of the terror of Trench Warfare. As I put together more of my WW1 kit, attend my first events, and learn more about how it all works, you can expect many more videos similar to this one!
If you would like to learn more about the SBR and other WW1 gas masks, this is a brilliant series of internet posts to browse through
There is also some incredible contemporary footage of various styles of gas masks, and how they are used, which can be found here
