Butchers and Donkeys, surely the only words appropriate for anyone who would be foolish enough to send hundreds of men charging on horseback towards machine guns! Cavalry were an outdated tool of aristocracy being sent blindly in against modern industrial warfare, right? Well...it may be a popular aesthetic, but it was hardly the truth. In reality, the cavalry of the British Empire was a highly flexible, adaptable, and modern force that was equipped and fought in highly modern fashions. In so many roles, they were the best (sometimes even the only!) tool available for the job! Yes, even on the Western Front. So in this video, I go into depth discussing the cavalry of the British Empire's cavalry during the Great War.
