In Texas, community activists mobilized an emergency protest in response to a mass raid, blocking an ICE truck saying, “we will not put up with ICE!”

In Hays County, Texas, police and the FBI detained over 40 people—mostly Venezuelan nationals, including children. Authorities allege ties to the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua but have provided no proof.

U.S. government checklist, revealed in ACLU court filings, shows broad criteria for labeling someone a gang member—even tattoos unrelated to gangs. Weeks ago, a Venezuelan man, Jerce Reyes, was deported to El Salvador after officials flagged his soccer ball tattoo as "gang-affiliated."

The extent to which Tren De Aragua even exists or operates has been in dispute. The Venezuelan government reported it launched an operation against the gang in 2019. In 2022 and 2023, Venezuela launched Operation Liberación Cacique Guaicaipuro to take down powerful criminal networks, which it tied to right-wing extremists.

The government targeted hotspots like Tocorón Prison, Yaracuy, Trujillo, and Caracas’ Cota 905, conducting raids and arrests to dismantle gang operations. The government reported to have dismantled 10 gangs, including Tren De Aragua.
