1:15Now PlayingImam Ayman Soliman, a local imam and former chaplain at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, has been detained by ICE after his asylum status was suddenly revoked.
On July 9, federal immigration officials took him into custody during a scheduled meeting in Blue Ash, despite strong support from local clergy, state elected officials, and interfaith leaders who waited for hours outside ICE offices.
Soliman, who fled Egypt after being tortured as a political prisoner, was granted asylum in 2018 because returning would put his life at risk. His deportation would be a death sentence. Local residents are outraged and calling for Soliman to be protected.
