Across U.S. cities, mass surveillance is quietly expanding at a rapid pace.

In Denver, residents packed a town hall to oppose the city’s partnership with Flock Safety, whose cameras scan and store data from every passing vehicle. Critics say the system violates the Fourth Amendment and gives police and private companies unprecedented access to people’s movements.

Despite clear opposition, Mayor Mike Johnston renewed Denver’s contract last month, adding only limited data protections while keeping the surveillance network in place.

Organizers warn that Denver’s fight reflects a national trend, where claims of “public safety” are being used to justify an ever-growing infrastructure of monitoring and control.
