as posted by the channelAmid stalled contract negotiations, graduate workers at the University of Illinois Chicago went on strike Monday. The next day, the workers announced a series of International Workers’ Day events, endorsing the May 1 national shutdown.
The UIC Graduate Employees Organization is demanding a living wage, healthcare coverage, sanctuary protections for international students, as well as guardrails on AI and proper credit for graduate researchers.
The strike comes after a full year of attempts by the union to bargain with university administration.
