Video surfaced Friday showing former Bolivian Senator Simona Quispe of the Movement for Socialism party being shoved into a white van by unidentified men in what Quispe’s daughter is calling an illegal kidnapping.

“I want to report the unlawful arrest of my mother. We were in Parque de las Cholas when some men in civilian clothes appeared; I imagine they were police officers. They grabbed her without any regard for the fact that she is a woman,” Quispe’s daughter told radio station RKC. "There’s no arrest warrant, no complaint, no notification. I hold the government responsible.”

Quispe's kidnapping comes amid widespread protests and road barricades demanding the resignation of President Rodrigo Paz, who is backed by the Trump administration. On Thursday the US State Department announced it is "ramping up emergency assistance and logistics operations support in Bolivia."
