0:53Now PlayingPolice violently repressed protestors in New Delhi Monday, deploying heavy force, teargas, and batons.
Thousands were marching to the Parliament when they were confronted by police. The protestors were following a call given by Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) and several left groups demanding the resignation of the country's Minister of Education Dharmendra Pradhan over his failure to run the country's centralized exam system smoothly, negatively impacting the lives of millions of students.
The CJP, along with left groups, have been protesting for over a month now holding Pradhan and the right-wing Bharatiya Janata Party central government responsible for tampering with the lives of millions of students who sit for various competitive exams every year.
In the last few months, students competing for entrance exams have faced repeated issues in the process with allegations of unfair practices emerging during the conduct of those exams, forcing the government to cancel them multiple times, and the stress and outrage have even led some students to suicide.
The movement is demanding major reforms to the country’s education and exam systems, as well as compensation for the families of students who have died by suicide connected to exam irregularities and results.
