On Thursday, laid off Joslin Tyson workers rallied outside the Rock Island County Admin Building to pressure local officials to join the call for the state seizure of the plant.
The workers are demanding one year of severance pay from Tyson and for eminent domain to be used to take over and repurpose the plant and save more than 2,700 jobs.
On Sept. 3, workers and supporters from across the state will travel to Springfield in an effort to present these demands directly to Gov. Pritzker.
