In this 82nd in a series of live discussions with Bret Weinstein and Heather Heying (both PhDs in Biology), we discuss the state of the world through an evolutionary lens. In this episode, we discuss how rhetorical tricks are being used to shut down discussion of scientific questions, and force acquiescence to authority. The same tricks—a kind of metaphorical buzz saw—can be used to both call anyone racist who objects to Critical Race Theory, and to call anyone an anti-vaxxer if they prefer Ivermectin to a Covid vaccine. Fear-mongering is in charge, and we are experiencing “cultivated insecurity.” We discuss a Nature News article that misunderstands what science is. And the former director of Intellectual Property at Gilead Sciences says we should be using Ivermectin as part of our fight against Covid. Finally: a pro bono ad for Liberty Puzzles.
