A heartfelt and timely message from Dr. Heather Heying on risk.

After reading two reviews of The Little House on the Prairie remake, both written by women and critical of the risks taken by Pa Ingalls, Heather wrote a Substack essay exploring risk, exploration and frontiers through the lens of the original Little House on the Prairie series.

Published in the immediate aftermath of their son's motorcycle accident, the essay took on an even deeper resonance. During the stream, Bret and Heather reflect on the piece and the role that risk plays in a meaningful life.

"...this narrow minded loser rabbit mentality feels like what is rising in middle class, white bread, boring, and the safest American culture now.

And even they, even the authors of these reviews, the people they're speaking to who are applauding them would do far better if they were not just ignored, but actually instructed in why their approach is wrong and itself is bad for all of us.

And I say that as someone who is just, as a mother who has just confronted the possibility to the most horrifying thing that's possible, he's gonna be okay, but we weren't sure.

And still, risk is important and necessary."
