People ask me if I like living in Nashville, and honestly? I kind of shrug. We live outside of Nashville intentionally, and I struggle to answer because I don't really know what Nashville's identity is anymore. I don't think it does either.

That's a growing trend in rapidly expanding Sunbelt cities — Denver, Austin, and Houston. They've become homogenous caricatures of themselves, where everything from the architecture to the businesses has what one author called "unbearable sameness." Main Street USA is effectively gone. So who's to blame?
