Stephen Colbert Finally Canceled Himself Into Irrelevance

The Late Show with Stephen Colbert ended, and almost nobody cared enough to be sad about it. For years, Colbert turned what used to be America's shared late night ritual into a nightly limousine liberal pep rally for people who were already mad. He brought in Bruce Springsteen — a man with private chefs and drivers who hasn't taken a real risk in decades, to play resistance LARPer one final time. Jimmy Kimmel signed off in solidarity by airing a rerun. The social contract of late night, entertain everyone, not just your side, has been dead for years. And tonight, we buried what was left of it.
