Patrick Swayze was cast because a writer obsessed over hooded eyes, not dance skills. The entire movie is a masterclass in distraction with a back alley abortion, an absent mom, and a poor male dancer prostitute, all buried under one iconic lift. Ryan Gosling literally weaponized that lift in Crazy Stupid Love to get women into bed and it worked every time. The real takeaway is that nobody remembers Penny almost bleeding out because the last 10 minutes were too good.
