In this video I’m breaking down something I keep noticing in protest culture: some men aren’t showing up for the cause, they’re showing up for the ego boost. Using the discourse around Zohran Mamdani and the recent protest in New York City involving political troll Walter Masterson and Jake Lang, I want to talk about the difference between genuine political engagement and performative outrage. When activism becomes about attention, dominance, or proving how morally righteous you are, the actual issue can get lost. I’m not anti protest. I’m anti ego driven activism. So let’s deconstruct how masculinity, status seeking, and internet clout culture can warp what should be collective action into something that mostly serves the people performing it.
