There really is a gap between knowing and actually being. You can understand class, power, and systems all day long and still show up in ways that are dismissive, biased, or just straight up harmful. In this video, I look at Hasan Piker and his focus on winning elections, and question whether that mindset sometimes prioritizes strategy over actually serving communities. Because at some point, you have to ask, who is this really for? I also bring in Catherine Liu and her desire to “reclaim rebellion” by using slurs, and push back on that framing. It assumes young people are overly sensitive or “too woke,” when in reality it often feels like the opposite, older generations refusing to evolve, reflect, or let go of harmful norms. Knowing the language of the oppressed doesn’t make you immune to bigotry, it just gives you a new way to hide it.
