TikTok discourse keeps giving us the same problem in different forms: a lot of confidence, a lot of think pieces, and not nearly enough actual thinking. From Drew Afualo and Er Fightmaster to conversations about trans women, bigotry, and women being offended at being called "cis," this is less about who won the discourse and more about whether we’re even engaging with the ideas being discussed. What's the point of being informed if it doesn't make us more compassionate? What good is reading all those books if we aren't applying the lessons? Let’s slow down, question our assumptions, and ask why so much online discourse feels more interested in having the right opinion than understanding the issue.
