The 30 Years' War was one in which Christians on one side slaughtered Christians on the other. The massacres were perpetrated based on difference in religious interpretation. Today of course we talk a lot about religious terrorism, especially of the Islamist variety. What about Christian extremism, both violent and non-violent? Borealis looks at this brand of terrorism and the links between Christians and the far-right.

Erasmus’s teachings are still pertinent today. He was a champion of moderation who had the misfortune to live in a revolutionary era. esiderius erasmus was the last great intellectual of a united Christian Europe: a scholar of universal renown, a friend to kings and tutor to princes, and a self-proclaimed “citizen of the world”. He produced a translation of the New Testament that changed the way Christians think about their faith. He also shaped popular culture. His dictionary rescued phrases such as “breaking the ice”, “teaching an old dog new tricks” and “leaving no stone unturned” from obscurity. His “In Praise of Folly” (1511) was hailed as a comic masterpiece.

Proud Boys find refuge — and money — on Christian fundraising website. GiveSendGo.com was used to raise funds to cover legal fees for the leader of the Proud Boys after he was arrested late last year on felony weapons charges. Henry “Enrique” Tarrio had already publicized his plans to participate in the Jan. 6 “Stop the Steal” rally. The 36-year-old Miami resident and national chairman of the Proud Boys posted on social media that he would direct small teams of his far-right group with a history of violence to wear black and fan out across Washington.
