On May 17th, a Beechcraft Baron BE-55 crashed shortly after takeoff from Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport in Broomfield, Colorado, killing both people on board.

In this video, Captain Steeeve breaks down what we know so far. The pilot reported an open door moments after departure and requested to return to the airport. But within minutes, the aircraft lost altitude and impacted terrain just over a mile from the runway. Was it distraction, mismanagement, or mechanical failure?

We’ll walk through the flight path, ATC communications, and the potential aerodynamic effects of an open door during takeoff. Plus, Captain Steeeve shares what pilots are trained to do in situations like this — and how small distractions can become major threats when flying at low altitude.
