An unusual security incident unfolded at Washington National Airport (DCA) when a kidnapping near the airport perimeter forced police to launch a helicopter search for suspects on foot. The helicopter entered critical airspace just as multiple airliners were on final approach.
The result? Several pilots had to break off their landings, execute missed approaches, and re-sequence into one of the most restricted and congested approach corridors in the United States.
