In 1987, Eric Malling interviewed Norway’s first female Prime Minister, Gro Harlem Brundtland during her second term. She had just named women as 8 of her 19 cabinet ministers and decreed that women occupy 40% of government positions. Brundtland was grappling with the sliding price of oil and a slowing economy. She tells Malling that she was raised believing she could have it all and all at once, attending medical school and then Harvard while marrying and having children and then moving into government.
