2:02Now PlayingWith the explosion of marijuana dispensaries in Vancouver - as documented by the fifth estate's recent Pot Fiction investigation -- the city council is taking steps to regulate the industry.
More than 80 medical marijuana dispensaries currently operate illegally in the city. Vancouver police have turned a blind eye to the stores as long as they don’t sell to minors or cause a nuisance.
Under a proposed set of new rules, dispensaries would have to buy a $30,000 business licence and locate at least 300 meters from schools and community centres.
In Pot Fiction, Chuck Varabioff the Vancouver-based owner of Canada’s first marijuana vending machine, detailed the rapid growth of the industry. We asked him for his reaction to the city’s proposal.
